A Trip to the Capitol
"Will we see the Governor?" This was the question that was most asked by the students before venturing to Lansing. "Probably not," they were told. Little did any of us realize that we would meet the Governor on the steps to the Capitol Building and have our pictures taken with her. Our trip to Lansing began at the museum to learn more about the history of our state. The students were able to see the history of our state progress from the beginnings with Paleo Hunters to various Native American Indian tribes who lived in the area to Mr. Henry Ford's Model T Ford on the assembly line and everything in between. After the museum the students were treated to a guided tour of the Capitol. Here they saw some government work in action as the House of Representatives began their session. We were formally introduced and were able to say the Pledge of Allegiance with the representatives. "That was way cool" was heard from a few students as we left the gallery. Our final stop was the front steps of the Capital Building for a class picture. While the children were getting ready for the Governor walked up the steps and introduced herself, asked the students a few questions, posed for a picture, and was on way to her next appointment. "I can't belive we actually saw her" was repeated by almost everyone in the class. Overall, It was a Very Educational and fun day!
