Volunteering

The Opportunity to Have a Direct Impact on the Future of Our Children

As a parent controlled organization, Grant Christian School relies heavily on parents and other community volunteers.  In fact, our school would not be the same without the countless hours that our parents and other volunteers invest for the sake of our school.  As good Christians in our community, we can use our God-given talents in different ways to keep Grant Christian School a great place to learn and grow in Christ.

Reasons to volunteer

Volunteering for the school not only helps to keep the cost of education affordable, but is also a great way for parents to act as positive role models in front of their own and other children.  When students see how much their parents are involved in their school, they will appreciate the value of the community formed around the school even more.  In addition, it teaches students the importance of community service by example and helps them to become productive citizens of their smaller and greater communities.  And last, but not least, volunteering at our school gives parents the opportunity to be much more directly involved in their children’s education and provides them with a chance to share many invaluable moments of their children’s school experience.

Ways to volunteer

There are many ways you can volunteer at GCS.  Parents and our community members can help with special class projects, ensure our children’s safety on the playground, get involved in sports programs, become active as members of the WHY (Willing Hands for the Youth), work in committees and for special events, and serve as board members.

School Board

The Grant Christian School Board meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month.  It discusses current issues of operation and works on ensuring the financial viability of our school.  In addition, it formulates a vision that ensures the fulfillment of our mission in the future.  New board members are nominated by the board and are elected at the Annual School Society meeting.  They serve for a 3 year term.

Committees

There are several committees working to ensure the smooth operation of Grant Christian School.  These committees meet once a month and address current concerns as well as future outlook.  The committees are headed by a chair person who is also a board member and is responsible to report to the Board about the accomplishments of the specific committee.  In addition, the chair person brings issues in front of the board that need to be voted on.

Currently, the following committees are operating: Education Committee, Building and Grounds Committee, Technology Committee, Finance Committee, Promotions Committee, Fund Development Committee, Auction Committee

W.H.Y. Society

Willing Hands for Youth is the parents' group that supports our school through special

projects like the Harvest Festival, hot lunches and catering. It has various other projects throughout the year that benefit Grant Christian. It encourages membership from all parents interested in the financial support of our school. Activities are planned for both working and non-working persons in mind. When contacted, you are expected to participate in some way. A statement of purpose, activities, officers and other pertinent information about the W.H.Y. Society can be obtained from the W.H.Y. president or secretary. A list of groups is put together each year, along with a schedule of Hot Lunch Duties and distributed to all members at the Annual W.H.Y. Society Membership meeting in the fall. The Success of the W.H.Y. depends on participation from all!

Additional Opportunities

In addition to volunteering in the school’s supporting groups, there are opportunities at every special event for people to help.  These include assisting with putting on the Spring and Christmas programs, helping out at sporting events, driving children to away games and other events, and ensuring our children’s safety as part of playground duty.  Also, tutors may be needed to assist children who need extra help.  Please consider all of these opportunities and contact our office if you have any further questions.
