5th & 6th Grade

Gunnar Elder is our 5th & 6th grade teacher. Social Studies is a fun and exciting class to be part of. This year our focus will be on Ancient Civilizations and how these early peoples began to share the world we live in today. Understanding the progression of these civilization will help each student understand how they have contributed to unfolding the history of our world. The Assyrians and Babylonians in Israel, the Ancient Egyptians as well as the rise and fall of the Roman Empire are just a few of the big topics we will cover.

5th & 6th grade Math is also a class to look forward to. The class is centered around problem-based learning. Students will be briefly introduced with a new topic and just enough skill to answer initial questions. Once they have their feet under them and have a good understanding they will be asked to us problem-solving skills to answer the more difficult questions. In this approach, each student will learn to think critically and communicate effectively how their mathematical thinking is evolving as they learn to use hands-on problem solving techniques.
