STEM

The science curriculum at GCS will be inquiry-bases with students solving real-world problems. The units will focus on different aspects of our environment. Specifically, students will be learning about the water cycle, cycling of energy and matter through food webs, what plants need to grow, and interactions with ecosystems. These units meet the Michigan Science Standards and all of the components of STEM. Plans are to include the expertise of Trout Unlimited and a couple of additional organization associated with sustainable agriculture which will enrich the units. Classroom time will be spent outdoors utilizing the varied ecosystems on the GCS property to gain important hands-on instruction and in the classrooms. Student collaboration will occur on a regular basis as students discuss what they observed outdoors and/or information found while completing research.
