3rd and 4th grade STEM was excited to welcome Kevin and Beth Syperda to the classroom. They came to share about the history of fur trade in Michigan, as well as talk about the different types of animals they have trapped. We were able to enjoy touching the fur from a variety of animals native to Michigan while learning those animals different traits. As an added bonus, 1st and 2nd grade were able to also come in and have a quick look at the different materials too!

Pastor Jordan from Grant Community Church led us in Chapel yesterday. He briefly discussed Isaiah 1 and shared two main points. 1. God desires more than just I'm sorry, he wants us to fully repent to Him. 2 God wants us to be washed clean, to do this we need the blood of Jesus! Through Him, our scarlet sins are made white as snow. (Pastor Jordan had a magic trick that went along with that). We need Jesus to clean us, and we also need to repent fully to God, not merely because we feel bad, but because we want to do what's right!
We also celebrated our "Getting Caught in the Act of Being Kind" winners for March.
Ms. Whiteside's class tapped the maple trees and collected sap for about three weeks, then boiled it down into syrup. It wasn't the best syrup we have ever tasted, but some of the students liked it. They were able to have a pancake day for tasting the syrup and are excited to improve our process next year!
The 1st/2nd grade students visited the Grand Rapids Public Museum on Thursday, March 21st. As a combined classroom for science, they focused on the "Building Buddies" exhibit focusing on simple machines and their features. They also got to explore the many other features of the museum and learn about the local wildlife and habitats found in Michigan. Thank you to the Clapp family for your mastodon bone donation to allow us to visit and have a fun, memorable time!
Yesterday, Representative Joseph Fox came to Grant Christian School and read to our Preschoolers, Kindergartners and First through Fourth grade students. The kids enjoyed hearing him read "Fox in Socks" and seeing him sporting his matching socks!
He also spoke to our middle schoolers about the constitution and what a state representative's job entails. Thank you, Mr. Fox for taking time to come to Grant Christian School.
Please plan on joining us at The Grant Fine Arts Center this Thursday for a FREE presentation from internationally known writer, speaker, apologist and military aviator, Dr. Frank Turek. Mr. Turek will present amazing information on why you can believe the Bible. A favorite comment of the critic is that the Bible is a β2000 year old book of fables.β Come hear Mr. Turek provide rock solid evidence on why you can believe the Bible is the literal word of God. This lecture, followed by a Q & A session will give you confidence to be able to defend your faith. This is a great time to invite a non-believer, skeptic or the Christian that wants to know why we can believe what we believe. Please join us from 6-8. Doors open at 5:30.
GCS will be closed today, March 22, due to weather.
We had a special guest this morning for March Reading Month! Mrs. Sandy Haveman came and read us her mom's (Kay Hall) children's book "Summer Vacation at Grandpa and Grandma's House.

It's March Reading Month! Mrs. Deurloo, an author and a parent of two children at GCS, has been teaching our kids how to write a book, the different types of a book, how to make a storyline, etc. Our kids have been able to work on their books with their chapel groups. She shared with us God is the best author of all time, and most of us have the best selling book in our house, the Bible!
This past Monday we were excited to host local author Jill Barry-Cowan. Jill read to our Preschool through 2nd grade students her "Millie Dreams of Michigan" book.
